The Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) has founded the Free Knowledge and Culture Office (OCCL). It’s the first initiative of its kind in Spain and its goal is to coordinate and promote activities related to free software, open data, free culture and open publication in the university environment.
The OCCL has been launched at the beginning of the academic course after Christmas. They are already working to publicize the open models of culture and knowledge dissemination so that they can be used as academic collaboration tools by the university community.
The Vice Chancellor for Ethics, Quality and Good Governance of the URJC, Manuel Gertrudix. explained that from this educational center they are committed to "disseminating knowledge and sharing it with the entire university community, and society in general, to make it more open, more participatory and more free".
During this year 2019 they plan to carry out different activities, such as creating working groups to collect initiatives that promote free knowledge and culture, organizing training courses, encouraging the production of open teaching materials and organizing an event open to the general public.
