To install manually X11RDP (and XRDP) we will follow this simple steps. This will download the latest X11rdp and XRDP versions, install them and configure them.

Note: This has been tested on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, but there should be no problem with other installations.

Requirements

  • The build system has full access to internet
  • The build system is debian based distro
  • The build system’s access to the Debian-based package system (via apt/dpkg/apt-get)
  • The build system’s repository settings are configured to access the repositories via the internet. (Or all the necessary packages available via the CD/DVD’s)

Tested distributions

  • Ubuntu 12.10
  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Xubuntu)
  • Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
  • Debian GNU/Linux testing (wheezy)
  • Debian GNU/Linux 6.0.5 (squeeze)
  • Debian GNU/Linux 7.0 (wheezy)
  • Linux Mint 12 Lisa
  • Linux Mint 13 Maya
  • Ubuntu 13.04 (Lubuntu)

Installation

  1. Download and install X11RDP-o-Matic. You will need svn or git to do this.
  2. In the directory you cloned X11RDP-o-Matic execute the X11rdp-o-matic.sh script with the parameter "--justdoit"

The process is long. It will take more than 15 minutes to complete, so be patient, it will be a one time process and it's worth the waiting. Also, the script fully automatizes the download, compilation and installation of X11RDp and XRDP.

In this example, we used svn to checkout X11RDP-o-Matic:

svn co https://github.com/scarygliders/X11RDP-o-Matic/trunk X11RDP-o-Matic
cd X11RDP-o-Matic
sudo ./X11rdp-o-matic.sh --justdoit

And voila!

To check X11RDP-o-Matic options and usage, see this url: http://scarygliders.net/x11rdp-o-matic-information/

From here, proceed to setup the window manager as described in XRDP and UDS at Select your preferred window manager.
