Linux 5.7 arrives with interesting new features

Linus Torvalds announced the availability of Linux 5.7. This new version of the kernel comes with a long list of new features. In this article, we will mention some of the most significant ones.

Graphics support has been refined, including, for example, Intel Tiger Lake support and for the open driver of AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. Support for OLED and HDR displays on AMDGPU has also been improved.

Starting with this version of the kernel, Linux offers compatibility with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chips and incorporates a new driver that allows the fast loading of iOS devices.

Also worth noting is the improvement in Thermal Pressure. This process helps to have better temperature control when handling heavy workloads. It does this by making the CPU frequency changes available for the task scheduler.

Linux 5.7 has a new driver for exFAT that replaces the previous one. Samsung will take care of maintaining this file system driver which will substantially improve system performance. Also remarkable are the improvements in EFI handling by the GRUB boot loader.
