Our Open Source VDI project for the Public Centre for Social Welfare in Eupen (Belgium) is the first of the three finalists that will opt for the recognition of Best Success Story in the Open Awards 2019, the most important awards in the open technologies sector in Europe.
These awards are given within OpenExpo Europe 2019, the largest business event on Open Source & Free Software innovation in Europe. They recognize and reward Open IT Innovation projects and initiatives that have stood out the most in the last year.
The category we lead will reward the company or public administration that has managed to establish itself as a benchmark success in its sector thanks to the application or implementation of open technologies. This is the particular case of the Public Centre for Social Welfare in Eupen, which relies on Open Source and free software systems. That's why for their VDI infrastructure they chose a full Open Source VDI stack composed of XCP-ng hypervisor, Xen Orchestra management interface and UDS Enterprise connection broker for desktop and application virtualization. This joint VDI solution was suggested by our trusted partner C2D System House.
Desktop virtualization helped them to centralize data as securely as possible and at the same time make location-independent and standardized working environments available. The high performance VDI solution they're using let them simplify the management of the full infrastructure, implementing high levels of security.
Thanks to their 100% Open Source virtual desktops platform they are saving costs while enjoying the possibility to modify and customize any component to fully adapt it to their needs.
XCP-ng, Xen Orchestra and UDS Enterprise make up a turnkey VDI solution including all the essential elements for server, application and desktop virtualization projects. With a common philosophy, focused on avoiding expensive license fees and vendor lock-in, the companies behind these software (Vates and VirtualCable) developed products based on Open Source to offer unlimited flexibility and freedom to users. The community can shape the roadmap and the future of these software, something unthinkable with those products developed by the big players.
The popular voting period of the Open Awards 2019 finished yesterday. We have been positioned leaders in the Best Success Story category. From here, we want to thank all our customers, partners, followers and friends who helped us to add votes.
For us, the recognition, support and trust of our community is undoubtedly the best reward. It is the engine that encourages us to continue working with dedication and passion to help all types of organizations to tackle the complexity of their IT scenario, solve daily challenges, improve productivity and make the work of IT administrators, employees, and users easier.
Next Thursday June 20 the ceremony of the Open Awards 2019 will be held in Madrid. We will be there to explain and defend our application and desktop virtualization project in front of the public and the jury, who will have the final word to choose the winners of each category.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed!!
