vApp Linux with UDS Enterprise: user view

by | Jan 17, 2019

The UDS Enterprise VDI and vApp connection broker allows you to choose among several options when displaying Linux virtual applications to users. The administrators of the platform can decide if they want users to see each Linux vApp individually, as independent services, or if they prefer them to be shown all grouped, as a single service. The image below shows an example of each case:

The decision to use one option or another is not just a matter of look and feel and usability. This configuration impacts on the resources consumed by the platform. Therefore, the UDS Enterprise team recommends configuring the deployment of several Linux virtual applications on a single virtual desktop, specially designed to achieve important resources savings. With this option we will only need a basic machine, creating a single service and registering as many transports as applications we will serve to a user.

For each Linux vApp to be shown separately, the only thing we may consider is that we must configure a base machine or service for each application (these services will have a single transport). In this case, a server will be deployed for each app, since we will need a unique virtual desktop for each of them.

It should be noted that in both options applications will always run on separate servers for each user, under no circumstances several users can access the same server.

These configuration possibilities are another example of the flexibility provided by UDS Enterprise. The administrators of the platform have always the power to decide the most appropriate for each group of users, as explained in the previous article on configuration recommendations when designing a deployment of Linux virtual applications with UDS Enterprise..
