VDI and Hyperconvergence: a match made in heaven

VDI allows for full hardware independence, simplicity and security, and the ability to centralize management and simplify endpoint deployments. Deploying a desktop virtualization infrastructure requires a SAN (storage area network) to host the virtual disks, a virtualization platform with the necessary extensions to handle remotization protocols, and several additional services like snapshot management, backups, disaster recovery and user/desktop management.

Enter hyperconvergence: the solution for making VDI shine

Hyperconvergence can be considered a catch-all word for an infrastructure where virtual resources are managed in a totally software-defined way; where each server contributes its storage, network and CPU capabilities to create a larger pool from which virtual resources (like the virtual desktops) are created. This means that it is much easier to handle varying workloads; if more desktops are needed, the user just needs to add a new server, and the resources will be transparently extended to take care of the increased demand. If some users need more capabilities, those can be dynamically carved out of the global pool and can be returned back when not in use.
