A few days ago we explained what exactly a connection broker is, but many of you will be wondering what it is mainly used for. One of the most common uses is desktop virtualization, in fact many solutions in the market only highlight or feature this functionality.

Apart from provisioning and managing virtual desktops, a connection broker can enable the administration and centralized management of users access to any other remote desktop service, like virtualized applications, IP phones, IP cameras, shared resources... Some of the most comprehensive ones integrate with different cloud services, even enable access to physical PCs and e-Learning platforms.

For IT administrators, a connection broker is the perfect ally to perform everyday work, since it helps them to deploy new properly setup workplaces with the suitable customization in just a few minutes, managing at the same time the lifecycle of all resources assigned from the datacenter.

In case of virtual desktops, the deployments based on templates simplify and improve support efficiency, reducing complexity in the different update processes. The security policies are dramatically reinforced in non persistent desktops environments, since users find a new operating system every time they log in. Each user has an isolated session, they are completely independent from each other and secured from outside through tunneler.

A proper monitoring and reporting system enables tracking users accesses to organization’s resources and their activity. In addition, it allows to consult the availability and state of the resources at any time. All this information flow is essentian for decision-making processes and real-time automation of processes.

For organizations’ users, a connection broker may be a completely transparent component and it shouldn’t need external elements to be installed on client devices. Users access their desktops through this software, where they find all the tools they need for their work. The access is usually performed automatically and brings about great advantages, since the top connection brokers enable access desktops, files, programs and applications anytime, anywhere and using any device.
