Fedora 22 arrives with innovations to cloud, server and workstation deployments

by | May 27, 2015

Fedora 22 is now available for download. This new version of the Linux distro sponsored by Red Hat and supported by our VDI connection broker for Windows and Linux UDS Enterprise, incorporates new features for cloud, server and workstation deployments.

On the one hand, Fedora 22 Cloud incorporates new features and images designed to help developers and users use Fedora in public and private clouds. Among other things, the Fedora Project has updated its Docker base image and set of Dockerfiles to help users make use of Fedora 22 in containers.

On the other hand, Fedora 22 Server provides a highly-flexible platform for a multitude of server functions, from file servers to domain controllers, thanks to Rolekit, a Linux daemon that helps manage server roles.

Finally, Fedora 22 Workstation delivers new features for developers and desktop users, emphasizing user interface enhancements and application improvements.

Underneath each of the editions, Fedora 22 provides a set of foundational packages, including the Linux kernel, RPM, systemd, and Anaconda. Fedora 22 also introduces an updated package manager for RPM-based Linux distributions: DNF. Fedora Server and Cloud users can expect to see faster results from DNF while retaining command-line interface (CLI) compatibility with Yum for most tasks.

In short, the latest version of the Open Source Fedora operating system delivers new container enhancements, server roles, developer tools and desktop refinements.
